Before reality TV and before we had a text generator, we had a high school JD intern named Matt Lenski, the son of two artists, Judy Rifka and Willie Lenski. We take you for a trip into 1994- with a Dancing With The Paintings segment - at Joe Fawbush Gallery (Joe, sadly deceased) and a Karin Davie first solo show. (she is now, sadly, with Mary Boone). Walter shows us the announcement for the first Gramercy Art Fair, which we later attend and bring to the public. They started the art fair craze and it's been more hellacious ever since. Videotaped by Miroslav Petrovic (now, sadly, deceased) We then move on to the year 2000 and stick to the paint. Amy Sillman, a painter's painter and someone whose work is worth grappling with, because a curious art loving public should know Amy Sillman paintings. Brent Sikkema is still alive but under a different gallery name. In clip 3 we're back in 1994, in Soho Gagosian with large pattern-like paintings by Philip Taafe. The paintings are large and quite video friendly, and I liked that. We talk to the kid about artists as parents, he says he gets art but we know he won't be an artist. He's in his 30's and is a producer for MTV. We have a nice little chat with Nancy Dwyer and Mary Heilman, this year's winner of the Guggenheim Art Award for Best Artist. (Walter and Paul are now, for most, happily deceased)
